Ductwork

Duct Repair & Replacement in Scottsdale, AZ

Air ducts are a vital part of any HVAC system. Correctly sized and sealed ductwork facilitates the smooth, quiet flow of indoor air, delivering cool comfort to every room. Suitably sized return ducts also maximize AC efficiency by promoting balanced air return and supply.

In older homes built before current energy standards, ducts are a common cause of poor AC performance and rising utility bills. Aging or deteriorating air ducts hidden in ceilings, walls and attics go unnoticed when new cooling equipment is installed. This neglect leads to common air duct problems like these:

  • Crushed, sagging or kinked ducts
  • Disconnected ducts
  • Leaky ducts
  • Incorrectly designed and installed ducts
  • Stamped registers & grilles
  • Undersized return ducts
  • Under-insulated ducts

Repair, Seal or Replace Outdated Ductwork

Larson’s duct replacement solves problems that stem from incorrect configuration, poor workmanship and old duct systems. Air duct design and arrangement is sophisticated and requires the expertise of specially trained technicians. Our NATE-certified team calculates your home’s recommended duct size and register placement to assure high-efficiency heating and cooling. Replacing an old HVAC unit without updating ductwork leads to poor equipment performance, much like attaching a frayed extension cord to a new lamp!

At Larson, we know ductwork design directly influences HVAC performance and other installation factors like these:

  • Equipment sizing
  • Unit efficiency
  • Equipment malfunctions
  • Envelope infiltration
  • Operating costs
  • Indoor air quality
  • Noise levels
  • Occupant comfort
  • Owner satisfaction with the system

Duct Services by Larson

To ensure year-round comfort during cooling and heating seasons, our Phoenix-area indoor air quality specialists provide duct repair and sealing, duct replacement, new duct installation and duct insulation. Other expertise includes:

  • Duct design & Manual D calculation. The Air Conditioning Contractors of America Manual D is the method used to determine ductwork layout and duct sizing. Larson’s NATE-certified specialists use this gold standard for designing and sizing ducts for new and retrofitted HVAC systems. Manual D calculations are used in conjunction with other HVAC installation standards to deliver homeowner satisfaction and assure system efficiency, quietness and performance.
  • Return air additions. When replacing HVAC systems and ductwork, it is often wise to incorporate additional return air vents. Most HVAC systems have undersized return-air ducts, resulting in noisy and less-effective cooling. Adding a return air vent reduces static pressure and prevents air from becoming “bottlenecked” in your vents.
  • Duct leakage testing. It’s no fun to pay for wasted AC. In a typical house, ENERGY STAR estimates 20 to 30 percent of conditioned air is lost through duct cracks, leaks or poorly sealed joints. Larson technicians will test existing ducts for leaks and recommend duct repair, duct sealing or duct replacement when necessary.
  • Installation of high-flow registers. High-flow return grilles are designed to be more aerodynamic than previous models, reducing static pressure and enabling more air to flow through. This means increased comfort, reduced energy use and less chance of noise.

Customer Reviews

Our A+ BBB-accredited company puts customers first. Learn what your neighbors are saying about our five-star team.

Everyone at the company was extremely polite and helpful. Sam came out to check out our ac system the very next morning... I called into the company. They send a picture ahead of time so you know who to expect. Sam was great, very friendly and spent a good amount of time on the roof, even showed me pictures to give me a heads up on a few other issues up there. Didn’t try to sell me anything and laid it all out straight, repairs vs replacement and let me think it over . Probably will replace since my unit is from 1996.read more

Well this will be one of the few negative reviews on Larson. I recently moved into a new home with a gas furnace and... wanted an inspection prior to using. I called Larson based on the reviews and they quoted $65 to come out for an inspection. No problem scheduling and they were prompt. The tech performed the inspection and right away noticed the flue pipe had separated at the unit, probably from the roof being recently replaced, which obviously needed repair. He struggled a bit and stated he’d rather replace the elbow connection because the remaining pipe was pushing up on the roof tiles. He verbally told me it would be ~$270 which I approved. There was one issue with a zip tie on a door interlock, which he cut off, and some insulation had fallen, which he reattached with adhesive.Total bill was $712.35. Inspection was $65.95, Insulation reattachment $60.65 (seems high for a can of glue and 5 min but whatever), and the ~1.5’ of flue pipe was $585.75! I figured I would wait to see the full invoice before questioning because the tech did not have an iPad or anything you could view it on. The next day after I received the invoice and called to question the charges, the customer service rep ends up arguing with me stating he “believes” this is a fair price because the issue could lead to a significant safety hazard with carbon monoxide. When I asked if they should charge more for that he says “not necessarily”. Seems like a gouging to me since these simple repairs were probably 1/5th of the cost to get a whole new furnace. Be sure to get a clear estimate with this place prior to approving work.Update: The company ended up honoring their original estimate and I appreciate them taking care of this.read more
