Of course, we’ve been around the block a time or two. So, we realize that even after we help cool things down, you may still have questions about your cooling system. Say no more. We’re here to help share our air conditioning knowledge.

Throughout the years, we’ve answered hundreds of questions from clients about their AC systems. This month, we’ll focus on the top five.

1. Why aren’t my vents working?

There could be a few reasons your vents aren’t functioning properly. If you’ve checked the obvious and they aren’t closed, additional reasons include: dirty AC filters, incorrectly sized ductwork, leaky ductwork, poor maintenance or blocked ducts. Give us a call and our techs can do a thorough service check to pinpoint the problem.

2. What size air conditioner do I need for my home?

This is a great question. Would you believe that most homeowners don’t even consider size when it comes to installing a new system? And when it comes to AC, bigger isn’t necessarily better. Buying a “larger than needed” air conditioner doesn’t mean it will cool your home better. In fact, an oversized AC unit will actually be less effective because it will waste energy. And the same goes for a system that is too small. Sizing the right system for your home is a key factor in obtaining the perfect indoor temperature. One of our experts can come to your home and do a complete evaluation. We will consider such things as total volume of living space, sun-exposed walls, your home’s age, degree of air sealing, existing ventilation system and window count to help determine the best sized system for your home.

3. How can I tell when it’s time to replace my air conditioner?

Replacing an air conditioning system is something most homeowners will have to deal with at least once. Is your system over 15 years old? Are you experiencing limited airflow and lack of coolness through your home? These are the top two signs that something might be wrong. Add in strange sounds, odd smells and energy bills that have skyrocketed—and you’ve got your answer. Another determining factor is whether your system contains R-22 refrigerant, which will no longer be manufactured as of Jan. 1, 2020. Call us for a replacement!

4. How often should my air conditioning system be maintained?

Ideally, you should schedule an air conditioning tune-up in the spring and a heating check in the fall. At Larson Air, we have a Cool Club plan that provides you with the best maintenance in all of Phoenix! Sign up today and you can save all year—especially during your regular tune-ups.

5. What should I look for in a brand?

Energy efficiency and reliability are probably the top two factors you want to consider when investing in a new air conditioning system. When you look at the energy efficiency of a system, you’ll want to consider SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) ratings. The higher the SEER, the more efficient the model will be and the lower your monthly bills will be, too. Reliable, durable brands like Trane have stellar reputations. We are a proud Trane dealer—which should tell you something right there!

As always, when you have questions about your cooling system or are in need of AC repair in Phoenix, give our comfort all-stars a call!
